Having been named Australia’s Youth Folk Artist of the Year, accompanied Billy Bragg on his US tour and played festivals like SXSW, the name Kim Churchill won’t be new to everyone. His easy-listening brand of bluesy-folk has now starred in three full-length releases and his latest track ‘Window to the Sky’ looks likely to be a big-hitter in the fourth. Having already seen his latest attempt receive national airplay via Triple J, 2014 could be a big year for Kim Churchill.
The song itself is a wholesome brew of thumping folk and delicate vocals. The track reels you in initially with its lively chorus before retaining your interest by subsiding in parts to deliver Churchill’s ethereal vocals on a bed of minimalist guitar. Undoubtedly a single that survives the repeat play test, ‘Window to the Sky’ retains its depth and maturity throughout and serves as a testament to the strength of the ever-impressive Australian roots scene. With a number of notable feats already achieved at the age of 23, Kim Churchill certainly has a bright future ahead of him, starting with album number four.
