This week London plays host to ON AN ON ahead of their debut album release early next month. ‘Give In’ will become the first full-length from the Chicago-based trio who were formed from the ashes of indie-pop outfit Scattered Trees, and from what we’ve heard so far, it’s going to be a good one.
If you’re new to Scattered Trees/ON AN ON, there is no better way of caricaturing the band than via today’s track, the explosive single ‘The Hunter’. With a concoction of heavy beats and angelic backdrops, the single showcases the bands dexterity in regards to blending both electronica and indie pop/rock genres. The vocals are accomplished yet understated and allow the raucous beats and pounding chorus to spearhead the song, an element made clear by the infectious drum solo early doors. Like any good indie-pop song ‘The Hunter’ isn’t overworked or too convoluted, the elements are balanced and the verses are as light and consumable as any mainstream pop single. I personally love a cymbal-infested, energetic indie so they’d ticked most of my boxes before I had even pressed play, let’s hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
